How Nitrogen and Phosphorus Availability Change Water Use Efficiency in a Mediterranean Savanna Ecosystem

چکیده
Nutrient availability, especially of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), is major importance for every organism at a larger scale ecosystem functioning productivity. Changes in nutrient availability potential stoichiometric imbalance due to anthropogenic deposition might lead deficiency or alter various ways. In this study, we present 6 years (2014–2020) flux-, plant-, remote sensing data from large-scale manipulation experiment conducted Mediterranean savanna-type with an emphasis on the effects N P treatments ecosystem-scale water-use efficiency (WUE) related mechanisms. Two plots were fertilized (NT, 16.9 Ha) + (NPT, 21.5 Ha), third unfertilized plot served as control (CT). When vegetation change alters ecosystem water availability.
The combined effects of vegetation and climate change on biosphere-atmosphere water vapor (H2 O) and carbon dioxide (CO2 ) exchanges are expected to vary depending, in part, on how biotic activity is controlled by and alters water availability. This is particularly important when a change in ecosystem composition alters the fractional covers of bare soil, grass, and woody plants so as to influe...
متن کاملHow energy and water availability constrain vegetation water-use along the North Australian Tropical Transect
Energy and water availability were identified as the first order controls of evapotranspiration(ET) in ecohyrodrology. With a ~1,000 km precipitation gradient and distinct wet-dry climate, the North Australian Tropical Transect (NATT) was well suited for evaluating how energy andwater availabilities constrain water use by vegetation, but has not been done yet. In this study,we addressed this que...
متن کاملMaize response to water, salinity and nitrogen levels: yield-water relation, water-use efficiency and water uptake reduction function
Water, salinity and nitrogen are the major factors affecting maize production in arid and semi-arid areas. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of different water, salinity and nitrogen levels on yield-water relationships, water use, water productivity (WP), water use efficiency (WUE) and water uptake reduction function by maize hybrid SC-704 in a semi-arid area and ...
متن کاملWater and nitrogen availability co-control ecosystem CO2 exchange in a semiarid temperate steppe
Both water and nitrogen (N) availability have significant effects on ecosystem CO2 exchange (ECE), which includes net ecosystem productivity (NEP), ecosystem respiration (ER) and gross ecosystem photosynthesis (GEP). How water and N availability influence ECE in arid and semiarid grasslands is still uncertain. A manipulative experiment with additions of rainfall, snow and N was conducted to tes...

Poultry litter applications to land have been based on crop N requirements, resulting in application of P in excess of plant requirements, which may cause degradation of water quality in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The effect of litter source (the Delmarva Peninsula and Moorefield, West Virginia) and composting of poultry litter on N mineralization and availability of P in two soil types (san...
